Bio-remediation is nature’s way of cleaning up. Technically, it is the accelerated breakdown of organic compounds through the use of enzymes, bacteria, or micro-organisms. It’s a safe, environmentally-friendly way to handle many kinds of hazardous waste. Bio-remediation was used in two of the world`s worst oil spills that have occurred in the past 30 years– the Exxon Valdez tanker spill in Prince William Sound, Alaska 1989 and the BP Deepwater Horizon rig spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. What is a bioremediating parts washer and how does it work?

A bioremediating parts washer like the ROwasher uses a natural process to clean and recycle its own degreasing solution. It combines a pH-neutral, solvent-free cleaning fluid with a Microbial Filter Mat that releases oil-eating microbes into the system. These microbes break down (remediate) the grease and oil washed off parts, turning them into harmless water and CO2. This process keeps the cleaning fluid clean and effective for longer, significantly reducing the need for hazardous waste disposal.

What are the safety benefits of a solvent-free parts washer?

The ROwasher eliminates the hazards associated with traditional solvent-based cleaners. It uses a non-flammable, non-toxic, and VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compound) aqueous solution, which removes the risk of harmful vapours and skin irritation. By switching to a solvent-free system, businesses can simplify their CoSHH reporting, improve workplace health and safety, and ensure compliance with environmental legislation such as ISO 14001.

Do solvent-free aqueous degreasers clean as well as traditional solvents?

ROwash solutions are engineered with advanced surfactants that break down hydrocarbons into tiny particles. When used in a ROwasher, the fluid is heated to 37°C–42°C, which reduces the viscosity of grease and oil, allowing it to be rinsed away even faster than traditional cold solvents. Users often report that the heated aqueous process is more efficient for heavy-duty grime and leaves parts dry and ready for use more quickly.
